Former Chairman, Telangana State Minorities Commission

Janab Abid Rasool Khan (born 8th October 1960) is a distinguished Indian politician, educationist, and social reformer from Hyderabad, Telangana. A second-generation Congress leader, he served the Indian National Congress from 1980 to 2018 in various capacities — rising from student politics to national-level responsibilities.

Son of the eminent journalist Abdul Mannan Khan — pioneer of the English daily Morning News from Hyderabad and one of the founders of Gandhi Medical College — Abid Rasool Khan was educated at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, and Nizam College. He was later awarded an honorary Doctorate in English.

A vocal advocate for minority rights, he resigned from the Congress party in 2018 citing the party's failure to address injustices to Muslim communities in seat allocation — a stand that exemplified his long-standing commitment to minority representation over political comfort.
